Skiing Holiday PreparationAre you planning a skiing holiday? There are things that you need to know and do before and during your holiday to ensure that it’s a good one. To have a skiing holiday that’s fun and safe follow these tips: - If you’re planning ahead for a skiing holiday, spend some time getting in shape. Skiing will be more fun. And, you’ll look adorable in your on the slope fashions. - Ski insurance is a must. If your equipment is lost, stolen or damaged you will be compensated. In addition, ski insurance should pay the cost of evacuation from the slope, should you be in a serious accident. -Don’t forget to take a high factor sunblock and a good lip balm. The sun is stronger at high altitudes. Sun shines off snow and wind exacerbates the effect. You’re not going to enjoy your holiday if you’re seriously sunburned. And who wants to be on the slopes with that chapped lip feeling? - Are your skis, bindings and poles in good shape and do they fit correctly? If you’re renting, the rental shop will check these things out for you. If you own your own equipment make sure it’s in good repair. - Dress in layers. You never know what the weather will bring. Make sure you have a warm hat, and a couple of pairs of gloves in case you lose a glove. Wear a helmet and goggles. - Don’t ski above your ability. Are you a bunny slope type? Well, when you’re ready to move up a step, don’t go straight to the black diamond slopes. Move up a slope at a time as your ability develops. - Are you so good that ski lessons are out the question? Nobody’s that good. Consider getting some lessons. - Ski in pairs. Watch out for each other. Plan a meeting place, should you get separated. - Obey warning signs and stay on ski trails. Ignoring safety measures can be extremely dangerous even if you think you’re not taking much of a risk. - Enjoy your skiing holiday but don’t pound down the booze. Ski performance is not improved by the over-indulgences of the night before and a hangover will not make your day more fun. Never drink while skiing.
